Plastic tableware intended for food products will be banned in Georgia, APA’s local bureau reports.
The decision was adopted by the Government of Georgia following an initiative from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of the country.
According to the decision, which will enter into force on January 1, 2026, the production (except for items intended for export), import, and sale of plastic forks, knives, spoons, stirrers, plates, containers, cups, and lids for these items will be prohibited.
Six months after the decision enters into force, public catering facilities will also be banned from delivering ready-to-eat food products to consumers in plastic containers and cups.
