Baku-APA. Slovenia held ceremonies across the country on Saturday to observe the Resistance Day, which marks uprisings against foreign occupation since the Second World War, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The Partisan Movement as an act of resistance against the occupying forces during WWII was "a glorious act of our nation," Slovenian President Borut Pahor said at a reception honoring Partisan Choir.
The Partisan Movement has not only protected "the vital national interest in survival and freedom," but also has special significance for many Slovenians today when this country is facing a finanacial crisis, Pahor noted.
"It deserves to have a place in our history to strengthen our confidence in the face of the challenges of today."
Slovenia celebrates the Resistance Day annually. But this year saw no national ceremony organized due to austerity.
