Baku-APA. Italian Premier Mario Monti intends to meet President Giorgio Napolitano to present his resignation after a cabinet meeting late on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Monti, who lost former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's center-right People of Freedom (PDL) party's support for technocrat government in parliament earlier this month, will resign after the cabinet meeting set to start at 19:00 local time, ANSA said.
He has already announced that he would stand down as soon as the parliament approves the 2013 budget, which was also expected in parliament later on Friday.
"A year ago this government was beginning, but today we have to end this role," Monti said earlier at the end of the Christmas mass for employees of the premier's office.
The premier's end-of-year press conference will take place at 11:00 a.m.on Sunday, the Italian journalists' guild said Friday. He is expected to explain whether he will run in the February 24 general election.
