Baku-APA. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has stated that international mediator on Syria Lakhdar Brahimi's initiative for Syria would be the last chance for a diplomatic solution to the Syrian crisis, adding that the international community had already lost enough time in resolving the 21-month-long Syrian conflict, APA reports quoting  Today's Zaman.

"We don't have any more patience to lose time; 44,000 people have died already. Brahimi's initiative is the last chance for the crisis. After this initiative, it is out of the question to talk about a new initiative," Davutoglu told a group of Turkish reporters in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Speaking to reporters after the fourth ministerial meeting of the Friends of the Syrian People Group in Marrakesh on Wednesday, Davutoglu stated that the international community is responsible for every minute passing without a solution to the Syrian crisis. Recalling the failure of similar initiatives by the Arab League and former UN-Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan, DavutoÄŸlu insisted that Brahimi's initiative to solve the crisis should be the last attempt at a negotiated settlement.

"This is not a matter of an exercise in diplomacy any more. It is a matter of making decisions and implementing them," he said, adding that there should also be a definite timeframe for Brahimi's efforts to resolve the crisis.

"The Syrian people want to see the light at the end of the tunnel," Davutoglu said, insisting that the UN Security Council should impose sanctions if diplomatic efforts do not bring the crisis to an end within a certain timeframe.

Peaceful protests began in Syria in March 2011 but turned into an armed revolt after embattled President Bashar al-Assad turned his military on the demonstrators.
