Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Monday that major fires within the Chernobyl nuclear complex have been extinguished, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Adviser to the minister of Internal Affairs Vadym Denysenko said the situation is "more or less stable" and that the radiation levels in the Kyiv region are not elevated.
Previously, Ukraine accused Russia of not letting its firefighters put out the fires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, allowing them to spread over 8,000 hectares of forest. On Sunday, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk accused Russia of "militarizing" the nuclear power plant and storing ammunition near it. She warned that "irresponsible and unprofessional actions of Russian servicemen present a very serious threat not only to Ukraine but to hundreds of millions of Europeans."
