The sanctions imposed on Bidzina Ivanishvili are actually a reward for protecting the national interests of our country, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said while commenting on the US Treasury Department's imposition of sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili, Honorary Chairman of the Georgian Dream, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.
"Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili was previously subjected to de facto sanctions, and he was almost blackmailed with official sanctions for three years. Now the grounds for blackmail have also disappeared. I don't know what will help the opposition. In fact, nothing has changed. De facto sanctions were already in force, and these unofficial sanctions were only because he did not give up the country's national interests. "You know what the tasks facing our country in 2022 were, what they demanded from the team, what they specifically demanded from Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili, and precisely because he did not oppose the fundamental, main interests of our country, they imposed the first de facto sanctions, and now, finally, a decision has been made that has no serious impact. On the contrary, with this decision, the tool of blackmail has finally been removed from their hands. The force we call the "Global War Party" has been doing this for three years. I have great hopes that things will change in a different direction. But in reality, nothing has changed. I recently had a conversation with Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili, and his position is exactly the same, there is nothing special. There is nothing special, in fact, this is an award for protecting the national interests of our country," the Prime Minister noted.
