Italy is ready to contribute to the mission in the Strait of Hormuz within the framework of the UN after a ceasefire is achieved, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said during a phone call with her British counterpart Keir Starmer, Corriere della Sera reports.
Meloni noted that Italy is ready to contribute to the mission in the Strait of Hormuz within the framework of the UN and could also deploy its naval forces in support of the existing “Aspides” European mission currently operating in the Red Sea.
It is reported that the phone conversation between the Italian Prime Minister and the UK Prime Minister was a continuation of the negotiation phase following a summit held with the participation of 40 countries to discuss ways to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
