Iranian Ambassador Seyed Ali Moucani has been summoned to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, APA's local bureau reports.
Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili explained to the ambassador that the statements he had circulated on social media went beyond the scope of diplomatic activity.
He noted that such statements have a negative impact on public sentiment and expressed hope that the Iranian side would take appropriate measures to prevent such cases from recurring, thereby eliminating the need for the Georgian side to take additional steps.
It should be noted that the diplomat sparked a diplomatic scandal with a post on his Facebook page. He shared an image of Georgian Queen Ketevan projected onto the facade of the Iranian Embassy building and said that he would soon present the results of his preliminary research on this historical figure. The ambassador's action was met with strong discontent among Georgia's ruling circles and the public.
