Global flood losses hit $82 billion last year

Flooding cost the global economy more than $82 billion last year, accounting for nearly a third of all losses from natural catastrophes, said reinsurance agency Swiss Re Institute Wednesday, APA reports.

Floods in Europe last summer alone caused $40 million in damage. The countries most affected by the floods are China, India, the Philippines, and the United States.

The total damage caused by natural disasters exceeded $270 billion in 2021.
