Germany has suspended projects worth more than 200 million euros, as well as cooperation with the Georgian government, in response to the ongoing processes in Georgia, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock vmade the statement published on the ministry's website, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.
The minister noted that the majority of the Georgian population wants the country to continue on its European path, and the protests show this.
According to Baerbock, now "the ball is in the court of the Georgian Dream" and the ruling party officials are obliged to do everything to end the political crisis.
"The granting of EU candidate status to Georgia in December 2023 was associated with clear promises of reforms. This has always been clear to the leaders of the Georgian Dream. But instead of progress, we see worrying setbacks - elections sharply criticized by international observers, disproportionate violence against demonstrators, the "transparency law" or restrictions on LGBTQI rights. The Georgian Dream is thus squandering the historic opportunity presented to the country by the European Union," the statement said.
