Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has filed a petition to the Constitutional Court, claiming that the results of the October 26 parliamentary elections are unconstitutional, Georgian President's Administration released information, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.
"Although there is a lack of trust in the Constitutional Court, raising this claim is very important. The court itself has dealt a serious blow to its own independence with its recent decisions. The President is taking this legal step to ensure that all legal avenues and mechanisms are used," said the President's representative, Eka Beselia.
Note that the Georgian opposition, including President Salome Zurabishvili, has declared that they do not recognize the results of the October 26 parliamentary elections or the legitimacy of the parliament. Opposition politicians, who have refused their mandates in the 11th convocation of parliament, are demanding new parliamentary elections to be held under international supervision.
