The EU may invoke Article 7 of the 2007 European Union Treaty, APA reports citing Teller Report.
Article provides for the deprivation of the voting rights of one of the countries due to a violation of European law. The change of government in Poland means that Hungary no longer has a guaranteed protector. Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Hungary had vetoed the allocation of additional aid to Ukraine. The decision was made by the European Council of Ministers, not the European Commission, according to a report in the Financial Times. The report was based on a request from Hungary.
The countries of the European Union are considering the possibility of depriving Hungary of the right to vote in order to conclude an agreement on the allocation of funds to Ukraine.
