European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said the EU condemns "in the strongest possible terms the reported atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces" in a number of Ukrainian towns, APA reports citing Teletrader.

He stated the union will "advance, as a matter of urgency, work on further sanctions against Russia," although it is unclear whether they will contain a ban on Russian energy.

Borrell added that the EU is assisting Ukraine in the collection and preservation of the evidence of war crimes and supports the investigations launched by Ukraine and by international bodies. "The European Union supports all measures to ensure accountability for human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law in Ukraine by Russian Armed forces," he said.
