The highest rank commanders of the Turkish army held an emergency meeting late on Wednesday after three retired general as well as a colonel was detained in the so-called Ergenekon operation. The army did not make any statement after the meeting, led by the army chief Gen. Ilker Basbug, in which the commanders discussed the latest detainments in the so-called Ergenekon case.
The meeting lasted an hour and 20 minutes. Press Service of Prime Minister reports that the meeting covered ongoing developments. Afterwards , Basbug has met with the President . The meeting lasted fifty minutes .
More than 30 people have been detained in the latest wave of the controversial Ergenekon case on Wednesday. Three retired generals, a colonel, who is on active duty, academics and journalists, known as fierce opponents of the government, are among the detainees.
Police also searched the home of a former chief prosecutor known for his anti-government views, fuelling charges the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
