37 people, including 3 generals and 3 professors arrested in Turkey

Ankara â€“ APA. 37 people wee arrested in Turkey this morning as a result of the operations carried out in 6 cities simultaneously. APA reports quoting Turkish news agencies that some of those arrested are persons, who once held high posts in the army and government agencies, and famous scientists. They are former secretary of Turkish National Security Council, retired army general Tunjer Kilinch, former commander of the 2nd army, retired army general Kamal Yavuz, former legal advisor of Turkish General Staff, retired general Erdal Shener, former chief of special operations department of Turkish Police Office, colonel, who formed special forces to combat PKK terrorist organization Ibrahim Shahin, unnamed captain of Navy, former chief of Higher Education Council, professor Kamal Guruz and others. Wanted rector of Yeditepe University of Istanbul, former chief of Istanbul municipality Bedreddin Dalan is in the United States now. Police searched the university and other offices of Dalan. Bedreddin Dalan told journalists that he had planned to return to Turkey late in January, but decided to return earlier because of the recent happenings.

A group of persons arrested over Ergenekon are standing trial now. Indictment has not been prepared about retired army generals Shener Eruygur and Khurshid Tolon. Another indictment will be prepared about the recently-arrested persons.
