Brussels–APA. The European Union will not take a side with anyone in a gas row between Russia and Ukraine, said deputy prime minister of Czech Republic, taking EU Presidency, Alexander Vondra, APA reports quoting UNIAN news agency. He said this was a commercial issue and they had no idea about the contracts signed between the two countries. Vondra invited Russia and Ukraine to resolve the problem soon. He said the European Union wouldn’t mediate in gas talks. “We will insist in fulfillment of the signed contracts because there is a question about the reliability of Gazprom as an exporter and Ukraine as a transit country”.
Gazprom Vice-President Alexander Medvedev and Ukraine’s energy minister Yuriy Prodan are on a visit to the European countries now to explain their positions and rights to the Europeans. Deputy permanent representatives of the EU countries will gather on Monday in Brussels. EU coordination group for gas issues will hold a meeting attended by the Russian and Ukrainian representatives on January 9.
