Baku-APA. Serbian police on Thursday uncovered a valuable art collection when they searched for war- crimes fugitive Goran Hadzic wanted by a UN court, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Members of the War Crimes Department searched the Novi Sad home of a close associate of Hadzic, a former president of Serb enclaves in eastern Croatia in the 1990s.

The raid was meant to find evidence which could lead to the location of Hadzic who is wanted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) at The Hague for crimes against humanity.

Instead, police found more than 50 valuable paintings, including a photograph painting by Amadeo Modigliani, which is believed to be worth more than 1.3 million dollars.

According to War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic, the Modigliani painting and the other art works were intended for sale to provide funds for Hadzic, whose whereabouts remains unknown.
