Turkey goes to referendum on Constitution tomorrow

The voters will receive a ballot with white and brown faces. They have to write â€œEvetâ€ (â€œYesâ€) on the white side and â€œHayirâ€ (â€œNoâ€) on the brown.

According to the legislation, a principle of quorum will be implemented in the referendum. More than half of the reliable votes (50+1) will be enough for a final decision.

Sale and use of alcohols during the voting day will be banned from 6.00 am until 00.00. Places of the entertainment will also be closed during the referendum. Mass media will not be allowed to report about the voting until 18.00. Only High Electoral Institution can report about the voting process from 18.00-21.00. The results of the referendum can be announced before 21.00 only by the permission of the High Electoral Institution.

The voters will express their opinion about the amendments to 24 articles of the Constitution. Amendments to the articles about the Constitutional Court and High Institution of the Judges and Prosecutors cause serious disputes among the society. The opposition accuses the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in an attempt to seize the judicial power.
