The World Bank (WB) has updated its natural gas price forecast for Europe and the United States for 2025-2026, APA-Economics reports, citing the Bank's forecast for October.
According to the forecast, the average price of natural gas in Europe in 2025 will be 12.1 US dollars per 1 million BTU (0.5 dollars more than the previous forecast), and in 2026, this figure will be 10.8 dollars (0.2 dollars more than the previous forecast).
At the same time, the WB assumes that the average gas price in Europe for 2027 will be 9.8 dollars.
In addition, the average gas price in the United States in 2025 will be 1 million BTU. It is forecasted at $3.5 per BTU (up $0.2 from the previous forecast), and $3.9 in 2026 (up $0.5 from the previous forecast).
The World Bank has also announced its forecast for the average price of gas in the United States for 2027. Thus, the bank expects the figure to be $3.9 in 2027.
According to the WB's calculations, the average price of gas in Europe and the United States in 2024 was $11 and $2.2, respectively.
Thus, in 2025, 2026 and 2027, gas in Europe will increase by 10.4%, decrease by 10.7% and 9.3% year-on-year, respectively. In turn, the price of gas in the United States will increase by 59.7% in 2025, by 11.4% in 2026, and will not change in 2027.
Note that the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) began on December 31, 2020.
