AzerGold CJSC is currently carrying out large-scale work to expand its mineral resource base and bring new mines into operation, Zakir Ibrahimov, Chairman of the Board of AzerGold Closed Joint-Stock Company, said at a meeting chaired by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and dedicated to the "State Program on the Development of the Mining (Metal Ores) and Metallurgical Industry in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2027–2030," APA reports.
According to him, the process is being implemented in four main stages.
It was noted that at the initial prospecting and assessment stage, research is continuing across an area of 15,000 square kilometers at the expense of the state budget, with the work planned to be completed in 2027. As a result, a map of the country's mineral resource potential, including the liberated territories, will be prepared.
Zakir Ibrahimov stated that work is currently underway on 10 promising gold-copper sites at the prospecting and assessment stage, which is also planned to be completed in 2027.
The Chairman of AzerGold's Board noted that work is being carried out at the preliminary exploration stage to identify economically viable reserves at five deposits.
"Approximately 1.5 million gold-equivalent ounces of preliminary resources have already been identified in total at the Goydag and Bashkend copper-gold deposits in Nakhchivan and the Mazimchay copper deposit in Balakan. Reserve calculations are continuing for the Nasirvaz gold deposit in Nakhchivan and the Tutkhun gold deposit in Kalbajar," Zakir Ibrahimov said.
He added that at the final stage, the detailed exploration and feasibility study stage, three deposits are already being prepared for operation.
"Resources of approximately 1.03 million ounces of gold at Soyudlu, 246,000 ounces of gold at Ortakend, and 4 million gold-equivalent ounces at Filizchay have been identified," the Chairman of the Board noted.
