Holding a referendum on Armenia's membership in the European Union (EU) in 2026 is unrealistic, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with RFI, APA reports.
According to Pashinyan, holding a referendum requires Armenia to at least submit a formal application for EU membership. He noted that the country has not yet submitted such an application.
The Prime Minister emphasized that applying for EU membership is not an end in itself for Armenia.
"If you ask me now whether the Republic of Armenia is ready to become a member of the European Union today, my honest answer would be 'no.' We still need to carry out many reforms to meet these criteria," Pashinyan said.
