A delegation led by Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran Eskandar Momeni arrived in Azerbaijan on October 12, APA reports.
Eskandar Momeni and the persons accompanying him commemorated National Leader Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honor. The memory of prominent ophthalmologist-scientist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva was also honored. The delegation then visited the Alley of Martyrs.
Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov, met with Eskandar Momeni and the delegation led by him.
Touching upon the importance of cooperation between the internal affairs bodies of the two countries, Minister Vilayat Eyvazov emphasized that combating illicit drug trafficking, international terrorism, human trafficking, illegal migration, and cybercrime, which are among the main types of transnational organized crime, remains in the spotlight, and that they can be effectively combated only through joint efforts. He said that Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs is interested in identifying new areas of cooperation and further expanding bilateral relations.
The minister then briefly informed the guests about the current crime situation in Azerbaijan and said that law enforcement agencies, in close cooperation, are implementing comprehensive measures against organized crime, international terrorism, extremism, separatism, and illicit drug trafficking.
Eskandar Momeni noted that the exchange of information and experience in combating transnational organized crime would have a positive impact on security in the region and emphasized that Iran’s law enforcement agencies attach great importance to further deepening cooperation with their Azerbaijani counterparts.
