The 20th anniversary of the first oil production from the Central Azeri platform, the second production platform after Chirag in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, is being celebrated, BP Azerbaijan told APA-Economics.
On February 18, 2005, President Ilham Aliyev visited the newly constructed Central Azeri production, drilling, and residential platform, and celebrated extracting the first oil production marking start of the full-scale development of ACG with the official ceremony.
Since then, Central Azeri has been the leader in ACG's production record and has the highest production rate of all platforms in the field, with a total of 152 million tons (1.1 billion barrels) of oil.
Last year, Central Azeri continued its operations safely and reliably, maintaining its leadership among ACG platforms with an average daily production of 97,000 barrels.
The Central Azeri production, drilling, and residential platform, along with its technical platform connected by a bridge, featuring a compressor and water injection facility, is one of the largest offshore complexes in the Caspian Sea. This complex also serves as an important operational center for other platforms and facilities in ACG and ensures the safe and reliable operation of the entire field through its advanced technical capabilities.
Currently, around 210 workers are employed at this complex, 96% of whom are Azerbaijani specialists, including Javid Iskanderli, one of the two shift supervisors of the platform. Javid was awarded SOCAR’s Honorary Diploma two years ago for his outstanding contributions to the development of Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry.
Currently, a total of 43 wells are in operation on the platform — 28 of them are production wells, 9 are gas injection wells, 5 are water injection wells, and one is a well for injecting sludge into the layers.
