Baku. Etibar Mammadov – APA. The ELS Independent Research Center has announced the results of the exit poll conducted during the Sept. 26 referendum in Azerbaijan.
The exit poll held at 400 polling stations from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, the center director Irada Yagubova said at a press conference in Baku.
According to her, the exit poll covered 118 constituencies, excluding those in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
As of 6:00 am, the voter turnout at the referendum made 65.1%, Yagubova added.
“90.2 percent of people voted in favor of the proposed constitutional amendments as to provision of state security and defense, while 9.8 percent voted against,” she said. “88.4 percent of voters backed the amendments on provision of human rights and freedoms, whereas 11.6 percent voted against.”
“The amendments aimed at improving state governance system and executive power structure were supported by 88.5 percent of voters, while 11.5 percent voted against them. 86.4 percent voted in favor of the modifications as to age limits on and office terms of electoral and designative posts, while 13.6 percent voted against.”
The referendum in Azerbaijan kicked off on at 8:00 am and wrapped up at 7:00 pm. The referendum was declared valid.
As many as 117 international observers – MPs from over 30 countries as well as observers from various international organizations, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) – have been accredited by Azerbaijan’s CEC to observe the referendum. The total number of the observers is around 53,000.
