National Council selects single presidential candidate

Addressing the session, chairman of Musavat Party Isa Gambar said that the main candidate for Musavat is Rustam Ibrahimbeyov: “We have repeatedly noted that we support Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s single candidacy. But there are positive and negative sides of his candidacy. One of them is the fact that Rustam Ibrahimbeyov is not in Azerbaijan now. I hope that Rustam Ibrahimbeyov will return to Azerbaijan late in July and will not say to hold a rally with 100,000 people and that he will come back after the registration of his candidacy. The process without the participation of single candidate can turn into tragicomedy. The removal of the National Council from the elections is contrary to the philosophy of the Council.”

Gambar called on Musavat Party activists to vote for Ibrahimbeyov.

So, the decision of Musavat Supreme Majilis dated January 4 on presidential candidate is valid till the registration of candidate of the National Council. According to this decision, Gambar is a presidential candidate of Musavat Party.

Chairman of Classical Popular Front Party supported Ibrahimbeyov’s candidacy.

At the end of the session, Ibrahimbeyov’s candidacy was put up for voting and approved. He was selected as single presidential candidate of the National Council.
