Baku. Musa Ahmadov - APA. “The pressures on Azerbaijan serves a particular purpose", said Vice-Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova at today's meeting, APA reports.
She said that countries with independent political will and position, like Azerbaijan, set limits to some people.
“One of the distinguished points in the statements by President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and others is that they express regret that in Azerbaijan they have no free partner in freedom. I would like to ask them if their partners in Azerbaijan are Leyla Yunus and some other 3-5 imprisoned persons or Azerbaijan in general. We consider not Schulz but the European Union and its member states our partner. We remain committed to our partnership. However, if they consider Azerbaijan with 3-5 persons who serve their interests, we do not consider it as a fair partnership. I advise and ask them to review the notion of partnership and comply with the partnership with Azerbaijan.
If they end partnership for 3-5 imprisoned persons, we should know how to act. We should make our position clear for them and their "partners".
Muradova noted that no one is undergoing pressure in Azerbaijan: “All are equal before the law in Azerbaijan. Everyone should bear responsible for their actions. Treason and betraying the state’s interests are the greatest crimes. We won’t forgive those who betray the state and its interests,” said Muradova.
The vice speaker said the Azerbaijani parliament needs to be consistent in its current position.
“We need to approach relations with the European Union and its relevant authorities in line with interests of our state and people. Like any other country that has political will, we must openly express our position till the end. As a response to manipulation of the arrests of some persons in Azerbaijan, I would say that law enforcement bodies and relevant authorities, human rights organizations and different individuals should state their positions under the principles of the rule of law and justice. They must take interests of our state and people into account when they prepare a report or comment on something. We are indeed undergoing a difficult period. I think the situation of our blinded brothers should be a good lesson for us. That is why we must not cut down on our position and vigilance within the country and beyond. Azerbaijani laws have always been respected. And the achievements Azerbaijan has attained are because its laws are equally applied to everyone. This is how we need to live. Interests of others must not distract us from our position,” she added.
