Canada and European countries will spend an additional $250 billion on defense over the next two years, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced, APA reports.
"The Europeans are getting stronger at a staggering rate, so we're going to see $250 billion in additional defense spending from Canada and Europe within two years," he told The Wall Street Journal .
According to Rutte, the key topic of the upcoming North Atlantic Alliance summit, which will be held in Ankara on July 7-8, will be the fulfillment of the promises made a year ago. "The summit in The Hague a year ago was about promises. This summit, in terms of funds, defense industry production volumes, and support for Ukraine, will be about implementation," the alliance's Secretary General noted.
