Under the legislation, any Azerbaijani citizen or party chairman aged over 35, who has been living in Azerbaijan for 10 years and got high-education, can run for presidency in Azerbaijan,” deputy executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party, MP Siyavush Novruzov told APA.
He noted that the National Council, which has determined a single candidate today, is out of importance and prospect: “Their candidate does not matter for us, because YAP doesn’t see any alternative candidate. The National Council can not even be an alternative to our regional organization, because they have lack of intellect.”
Novruzov also touched upon Ibrahimbeyov’s candidacy: “As he is abroad, his nomination is extramural.”
YAP official said in connection with this, election campaign has three major conditions:
“One of them is time. It is the only resource that it is not restored. The second is the social base – electorate, the third is the financial support needed in election campaign. The major factor of all this is the candidate. They have already lost time, one of these conditions, because they start preparations for elections a year in advance. They have verbally formed a candidate. They have no social base, electorate. As regards another condition, they have been waiting for financial support. Therefore, they have gathered. But there is no financial support. Their candidate is film director. He is neither a socio-political figure, nor a statesman. He is known only as a film director and can win the support of only one percent of Azerbaijani people. All this shows that they are not preparing for real elections,” he said.
Novruzov said also commented on the views that “Rustam Ibrahimbeyov is making a political film”.
“He can not even make an ordinary film, let alone a political film. He will put the political parties surrounding him in difficult situation,” he said.
