Council that has brought together unsuccessful opposition will achieve something in the presidential elections”
Baku. Shamil Alibeyli - APA. “The establishment of the National Council is an ordinary, insignificant event in the life of Azerbaijan,” deputy chairman, executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), MP Ali Ahmadov told APA.
According to Ahmadov, in the modern history of Azerbaijan there have been similar unions of opposition.
“But time has shown that the opposition has itself destroyed such unions. The opposition can destroy, rather than create,” he said.
Touching on the National Council’s chances in the presidential elections, Ali Ahmadov said irrespective of the leader of the organization, it has no chances.
“Those who are represented in the National Council have attempted to participate in the political life of Azerbaijan and succeed in the elections within 20 years, but they failed to achieve anything as they were not supported by the Azerbaijani citizens. All of those who have gathered in the National Council are politicians, who faced fiasco to some extent,” he said.
Touching on Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s election as chairman of the National Council, deputy chairman of YAP said he can not influence Azerbaijan’s political life.
“He has achievements in cinema, of course we admit it. But Rustam Ibrahimbeyov has no experience in politics, moreover Azerbaijani citizens do not support him as a politician. So, it is nothing but naivety to expect that under his leadership the National Council that has brought together unsuccessful opposition will achieve something in the presidential elections,” he said.
