The statement issued by the President’s press service says:
“The Azadlig newspaper is publishing false, often insulting and provocative articles about President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. As the continuation of this biased activity, the newspaper published a false article on April 24, 2012, which says that Mr. Ilham Aliyev wears $800 000 watch.
In connection with this, we state that President Ilham Aliyev wears an ordinary, inexpensive, metal watch. Mr. President is a modest person, therefore, he prefers simplicity in his lifestyle and behavior.
If the Azadlig newspaper does not apologize by publishing a refutation within three days after the publication of the false article, it will be sued.â€
