Azerbaijani Parliament approves amendments to Law on Political Parties

APA reports that in his speech, chairman of Umid Party Igbal Aghazadeh said that the proposed amendments would increase the power of ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

Deputy Executive Secretary of ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Mubariz Gurbanli criticized the claims about allocation of more resources to YAP. He said that if the funds had been allocated to political parties in Azerbaijan according to the rules implemented in world experience, more funds would have been fallen to YAPâ€™s share: â€œOnly YAP issues reports every year, but the other parties, including opposition, donâ€™t do itâ€.

MP Aydin Mirzazadeh proposed to abolish the state registration of parties that donâ€™t participate in the national election for two times.

Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of YAP Ali Ahmadov said that by new amendments the political parties would function more effectively. He noted the existence of certain injustice in financing issue.

First vice speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov said that it was a high time to pass from street opposition to civil opposition in Azerbaijan.

Chairman of Justice Party Ilyas ismayilov, YAPâ€™s Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov, Sahib Aliyev also expressed their opinions on the draft. It was put to vote and adopted.
