Public Chamber holds roundtable dedicated to April 2 prisoners

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. The Public Chamber held an event dedicated to the persons arrested in the protest action on April 2, 2011, APA reports.

Member of the Public Chamberâ€™s Coordination Council Mehriban Vazir said 16 persons, who were detained in the protest action, faced unproved charges.

Chairman of Musavat Party Isa Gambar said the Public Chamber should strengthen activity for the release of the prisoners. Isa Gambar spoke about the Public Chamberâ€™s activity on the eve of Eurovision song contest.

Chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Karimli said the Public Chamber should start events by March 15.
â€œThe European Union will hold hearing on Azerbaijan with the participation of Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. The Public Chamber should focus attention on this issue, address the European Union,â€ he said.

Chairman of Ahrar Party, member of the Public Chamber Vagif Hajibeyli, member of Musavat Party Mehdi Mehdiyev, deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Nureddin Mammadli, former parliamentarian Panah Huseyn, member of Musavat Partyâ€™s Assembly and Public Chamber Mustafa Hajibeyli underlined the necessity of effective defense of prisoners.

A statement was issued at the end of the event. The Public Chamber demanded the release of the prisoners.
