Press conference on postponement of Forum of Intellectuals
According to APA, the press conference was held by historian Jamil Hasanli. He said administration of Hyatt Regency Hotel, the venue of the forum, told them that they couldn’t hold the event because of energy supply problem in one of the hotel’s wings. Hasanli said they didn’t believe in this argument and assessed it as a result of pressure upon the hotel’s administration. “It is seen very primitive to prevent the Forum of Intellectuals by this method. Our remarks are not accepted correctly. Those who gather in the Forum of Intellectuals have no political claims. We know the problems of our citizens, our societyâ€.
Hasanli said topic of the meeting scheduled for yesterday was related to the problems of Azerbaijani youth. “Unfortunately the society is formed on the lies sometimes and it doesn’t promise successful futureâ€.
Analyzing the current situation in the country, writer Akram Aylisli said they wanted to address and to solve the problems. Aylisli also spoke about the “Arab springâ€. “The developments in those countries didn’t lead to the democracy, but destroyed the state. We don’t’ want that such situation occurs in Azerbaijanâ€.
Writer Rustam Ibrahimbeyov drew attention to the facts of bribery in the country.
“All know that there are facts of bribery everywhere, from kindergartens up to the universities. This leads Azerbaijan’s future to danger. This problem should be solved,†he said.
Rustam Ibrahimbeyov criticized the internal political processes and said he will not be involved in these processes.
“Expressing the position of intellectuals, we want the problems in the country to be solved. Intellectuals must tell the truth,†he said.
Coordinator of the Forum Eldar Namazov said they will not sue the Hyatt Regency.
“This hotel is a part of a great network. We have contacted with the company, they explained it as a technical problem,†he said.
Professor Rafig Aliyev also spoke about the problems in the country.
The meeting of the Forum of Intellectuals scheduled for December 29 in Hyatt Regency did not take place due to the problems in energy supply.
