Azerbaijani parliament approves amendments to â€œThe law on identity card of the citizen of Azerbaijan Republicâ€

Azerbaijani parliament has discussed draft amendment to â€œThe law on identity card of the citizen of Azerbaijan Republicâ€ and draft law on abolition of â€œThe law on confirmation of the model of the identity card of the citizen of Azerbaijan Republicâ€. APA reports that chairman of the parliamentâ€™s committee on legal policy and statehood Ali Huseynli gave information about the draft laws. He said according to the proposed amendment, in case of international contract between Azerbaijan and foreign states, the citizen of Azerbaijan can use the identity card in those states, as an identification document, also as a document ensuring the right to enter or depart the country.

According to the amendments, the kinds of identity cards issued under 16 and above 16 will be abolished.

According to the law, every citizen of Azerbaijan is to get ID card after having reached 15, the person admitted to the citizenship of Azerbaijan is to get the ID card within a month.

The identity card will be given to the citizens for 10 years, but those who are above 55 will receive it for unlimited time.

The identity card will include along with other data, the individual identification number, and photo in accordance with the requirement of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

It will have micro-chip as well.

The identity card is changed in the case of expiration of the term of validity, change of name, family name, insufficiency of ID-card or its micro-chip and inaccurate data.

The ID-cards issued until January 1, 2014 is valid until reaching age of 25, 35, 50, change of name, marital status, loss of ID-card, identification of inaccurate data.

The law is considered to come into force on January 1, 2014.

The identity cards are issued by the Swiss company.

The drafts were voted and adopted.
