Azerbaijan holds rerun, additional and new municipal elections

There are 1169 polling stations.

The candidates are running for 464 places in 330 municipalities during the voting in 86 constituencies. In general, 1567 candidates were registered. 16 people withdrew their nomination, 2 people died. Consequently, the number of the registered candidates decreased to 1549.

Candidates from nine political parties were registered. These are New Azerbaijan Party, Motherland Party, Citizen Solidarity Party, Party of Hope, Azerbaijan Social Welfare Party, United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Great Establishment Party, Citizens’ Unity Party and Democratic Reforms Party. 709 are non-party men.

305 (19.69%) of the registered candidates are women. 673 (43.45%) have higher education, 605 (39.06%) secondary education, 265 (17.11%) vocational education, 6 (0.38%) incomplete higher education.

1 155 864 voters were recorded.

9883 observers were registered in the electoral districts, 40 – in the Central Election Commission. The total number of registered observers is 9923.

Preliminary information about the voting, participation of the voters in the voting will be given five times within a day (at 10.00, 12.00, 15.00, 17.00 and 19.00).

The preliminary results of the elections will be made public at night.

Last municipal elections were held in Azerbaijan on December 23, 2009.
