President of Azerbaijan attends the power station founding and hotel opening ceremonies in Balaken

Baku â€“ APA. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony of foundation of hydroelectric power plant in Balaken region of the country on Thursday. Azernergy CEO Etibar Pirverdiyev informed President Aliyev about the energy installation to be constructed there. He said Azerenergy Company was commissioned to learn opportunities for use of wind- and hydro-energy and to elaborate special programs in accordance with the presidential order signed on November 16, 2009. The experts found out that there is an opportunity to build hundreds of hydroelectric power stations on the mountainous rivers and channels. These stations will help to save fuel and to protect environment.

Balaken power station will produce 10 million kilowatt/h of electric energy per year. It will meet 25 percent of energy needs of the region. The station will be built by the local company AZENKO and equipped with three 0.5-megawatt hydro-turbines and hydro-generator, as well as 10-kilovolt substation and electric lines. The construction is expected to be finished in the second half of 2011. Then President Aliyev laid foundation of the power station.

The head of state attended the opening of Gubek Hotel in Baleken as well. He cut a symbolic ribbon and then became familiar with the 100-bed four-star hotel, which construction began in 2007. There are nine luxury and 54 ordinary suites, 80-seat conference room, 80-seat summer and winter restaurants in the hotel. It has 80-member personnel. The hotel is located in a tourism area and it will promote to develop tourism opportunities of the Balaken region. President Aliyev highly appreciated the conditions created there.
