Second roundtable takes place on follow-up to recommendations of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights - <font color=red>PHOTO</font>

Baku. Viktoria Dementieva - APA. The second roundtable is taking place in Baku on follow-up to the recommendations of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), APA reports. The roundtable is organized by OSCE Office in Baku. The roundtable focuses on election administration issues, including composition of election commissions, registration of candidates, and election complaints.
Making a keynote speech at the event, Head of OSCE Office in Baku Ali Bilge Cankorel said OSCE supports the efforts of the Azerbaijani government to improve the election atmosphere on the eve of the parliamentary elections in November. He said to carry out proper registration of the candidates broad conditions will be created for all political parties to participate in the elections.

Head of OSCE/ODIHR’s Election Department Nicolas Kaczorowski welcomed Azerbaijani government’s continuing the dialogue with OSCE in order to improve the election atmosphere. He noted that democratic and well-arranged election has several standards such as independence, justice, proficiency and transparency. He added that ODIHR can only give recommendations, the format of cooperation is chosen by Azerbaijan.

Secretary of Central Election Commission (CEC) Natig Mammadov said they are closely cooperating with OSCE/ODIHR, the cooperation is becoming more effective. He said the CEC is carrying out serious activities in connection with the forthcoming elections, they attach great importance to increasing the proficiency of the members of the local election commissions. Natig Mammadov noted that the occupation of a part of the Azerbaijani territories influenced the election process, there are difficulties in preparing the list of the IDPs.

The discussions continued without participation of media.

Representatives of Azerbaijani government bodies, 17 political parties, civil society, the international organizations and diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan attended the roundtable.
