The Secretary General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Erguc Kalantarli, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sudan, Mohieldin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim, at the organization's headquarters in Geneva on July 3, International Civil Defence Organization told APA.
During the meeting, the parties held a comprehensive exchange of views on the ongoing humanitarian situation in the Republic of Sudan, its impact on civil defence and emergency preparedness, as well as the support and cooperation that could be provided to the country within the framework of the ICDO's activities. In particular, they discussed the coordination of humanitarian assistance, capacity building, the organization of training programs, the development of early warning systems, and the strengthening of institutional capacities in the field of civil defence.
The parties also exchanged views on the ICDO's current areas of activity, the institutional reforms being implemented within the organization, efforts to enhance its effectiveness and efficiency, and preparations for the organization's upcoming official meetings.
During the meeting, the Secretary General recalled that, within the framework of ongoing cooperation, he had also met with Sudan's Minister of Interior, Babeker Samra Mustafa Ali, on December 9, 2025. During that meeting, Sudan's humanitarian needs and the areas in which the ICDO could provide support were discussed in detail. In this regard, today's meeting was described as a continuation of that cooperation.
For his part, Sudan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation highly praised the ICDO's humanitarian activities and expressed his country's interest in further expanding cooperation with the organization.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing joint efforts aimed at improving the humanitarian situation in the Republic of Sudan, strengthening its civil defence capacity, and further developing cooperation between the ICDO and Sudan.
