Ceremony on 90th anniversary of State Border Service

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov â€“ APA. Young officers took oath of frontier guards at the ceremony held on the 90th anniversary of State Border Service. APA reports that presidential military aide Vahid Aliyev and chief of State Border Service Elchin Guliyev attended the ceremony.

Addressing the ceremony, Elchin Guliyev said frontier guards are protecting state borders of Azerbaijan, and added that after Heydar Aliyev returned to power, serious improvements were made in the protection of Azerbaijani borders. Guliyev said the state borders are in the reliable hands. He said 2842 trespassers were detained, smuggling of 227kg narcotics was prevented, 668 wanted people were detained and smuggled goods worth approximately AZN 2.05 million were confiscated within seven months of 2009. Elchin Guliyev also said the head of state always cared for the frontier guards, a group of officers were awarded a few days ago.

Elchin Guliyev presented the National Hero Order to the family of Elton Isgandarov, who was killed while protecting the state border. 80 young officers took oath of frontier guards.
