Azerbaijan Party of Intellectuals protests the gas price increase

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. Azerbaijan Party of Intellectuals issued a statement against the double increase of gas price by the Tariff Council on July 1, the partyâ€™s press service told APA. The party criticized the decision to increase gas price from 47.2 AZN to 100 AZN per 1000 cubic meters and said it had no economic-social arguments. It is not correct to increase gas price while Azerbaijan is under pressure of global financial crisis and becoming the gas exporter, said the statement. The party considers that increase of energy vector prices worsens the situation of the citizens and leads to the social tensions in the society, the party said. The energy vectors should be available for the citizens of Azerbaijan, like Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
The party called on the Tariff Council to cancel its decision.
