American-Azerbaijanis are to be counted

Washington. Isabel Levine â€“ APA. US Census Bureau, which is indicated to hold population counting in the United States, is going also to find out the number of Azerbaijanis and Turks, next year.

According to APAâ€™s Washington correspondent, Turkish and Azeri Diaspora organizations will start a country wide campaign in order to call on Diaspora members to participate in this process.

In order to be consider as Azeris and Turks Diaspora members must select the nationality as â€œotherâ€ and point out which nationality do they belong to.

â€œThere wore such population counting before, but Azerbaijanis never had a chance to introduce themselvesâ€ â€“ told APAâ€™s Washington correspondent Eldar Jabbarov, one of the Azeri Diaspora members.

According to him, this step is very important in terms of lobbying. â€œIs will be the first time that Azerbaijanis and Turks will have a opportunity to find out the official number of Diaspora membersâ€.

According to approximant statistics there are about 500 thousand Turks and 100 thousand Azeris in US. The population counting form will be send to every family in US in March 2010.
