The Azerbaijani Theater in Derbent has been named after Muslim Magomayev, APA's Russia bureau reports.
Fyodor Shchukin, acting head of the Republic of Dagestan, has signed a decree naming the Azerbaijan State Musical Drama Theater after People's Artist Muslim Magomayev.
Note that the Azerbaijan State Drama Theater in Derbent was established in the late 19th century. It received official status in 1904 and state status in 1934. The theater, which stages works by Azerbaijani classics, began undergoing reconstruction in 2015 under an order issued by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In March 2026, the historic theater building was officially reopened with Russian President Vladimir Putin participating via video conference. As part of the large-scale renovation, the theater was equipped with a modern stage, lighting and sound equipment, comfortable dressing rooms, and a spacious auditorium.
