Opening ceremony of international conference â€œHeritage Under Pressure â€“ Perspectives of Historic Urban Landscape (HUL)â€ held in Baku - <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION</font>

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) of UNESCO World Heritage Center. The conference is dedicated to the preservation of the endangered cultural heritage monuments or those located in the conflict zone.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev said the state is pursuing active policy towards preservation and restoration of the cultural monuments. Minister said the monuments that are located in the occupied Azerbaijani territories are destroyed, misappropriated, animals are kept in the historical sites. He said the Armenian church is preserved in Baku, Armenian Catholicos visited the church during his trip to Azerbaijan.
â€œVarious nations live in Azerbaijan at peace and have preserved their traditions. There is nothing strange here, this is our tradition, our lifestyle,â€ he said.

Minister of Culture invited the participants of the conference to the Intercultural Dialogue in Baku on May 28 â€“ June 1.

Chief of the Administration of â€œIcherisheherâ€ State Historical-Architectural Reserve Mikayil Jabbarov said preservation of the cultural monuments is very important. He said the preservation of â€œIcherisheherâ€ State Historical-Architectural Reserve is an important step. Mikayil Jabbarov said the delegation from Kazan is studying the experience of preserving the monuments by the example of Icherisheher.

Director General of the ICCROM Stefano De Caro expressed his gratitude to the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and President of the Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for giving $50 000 aid for preservation of the cultural heritage of Africa.

President of the ICOMOS Gustavo Araoz expressed his confidence that an agreement will be signed to enhance the cooperation with Azerbaijan.
The conference will end on April 29.
