"This event is aimed at protecting our planet," the Prefect of the Vatican's Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti said at the opening ceremony of the Global Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders, titled "World Religions for a Green Planet," held on November 5 within the framework of the 9th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, APA reports.
Cardinal Gugerotti emphasized the significance of the event, noted that it is very commendable that religious leaders and representatives from various organizations and faiths come together to discuss a crucial issue: “The world currently faces immense catastrophes. Our religious beliefs are a great strength. We do not believe in relativism or individualism. Our actions should aim to build our future.”
He added that humans should live with dignity: “Humans are the fruit of love on Earth, not merely a collection of chemical elements but an embodiment of love. We have no time to wait—the danger is approaching. What happens to us depends on how we fulfill our shared responsibilities. We must protect our humanity; otherwise, wars will intensify, and we will head toward destruction.”
