"Although under Donald Trump's leadership the U.S. federal government placed climate-related actions on the back burner, efforts to prevent climate change remain a commitment in the U.S. and will confidently continue," John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President Joseph Biden for International Climate Policy said during a press conference held as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, APA reports.

"I want to address a topic that is on everyone’s mind tonight—the U.S. presidential elections. I know it’s hard to endure this disappointment, as the dangers we face are becoming increasingly catastrophic, but that is the reality. The United States is a democratic country, and in a democracy, the will of the people prevails. Our administration is working to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of power.

As President Biden said last week, setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable. This is not the end of our fight for a cleaner, safer planet. Facts are still facts. Science is still science. The fight for the planet is bigger than one election in one country because we are all facing the climate crisis in every country in the world. July 22 was the hottest day on record. The consequences of living on a rapidly warming planet are not just the destruction of coral reefs and the melting of ice sheets; this problem surrounds us everywhere. It has a devastating impact on people's lives. This fall, Hurricanes Helene and Milton hit the southeastern United States, killing hundreds and causing weeks of disruptions in electricity and water services in communities. In southern Africa, the worst drought in decades is putting 20 million children at risk of food shortages and even starvation."

During his speech, he highlighted witnessing the dedication and professionalism of the COP29 Azerbaijan team led by Minister Mukhtar Babayev in organizing COP29.
