Drought caused by climate change is a serious problem, Abheet Solomon, the Head of UNICEF's Global Program on Healthy Environments for Healthy Children, said at a joint press conference on climate, health, and children organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Lancet Countdown, APA reports.
Abheet Solomon pointed out that drought leads to food problems: "Water pollution, floods, and diseases caused by drought pose a threat to children's healthy development."
He also emphasized that the loss of biodiversity due to climate change is another health threat: "Everything starts with the health and well-being of children. Therefore, it is necessary to solve these problems. We need to make children a priority when it comes to climate policy, investment, and actions in this direction. We are responsible to future generations for the climate actions we take today."
