A press conference on the topic "La Ruta del Clima" Addressing loss and damage, reparations and climate debt: Human rights obligation, not a charity" was held within the framework of the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Baku, APA reports.
According to the report, the conference highlighted the urgency of combating climate change and the responsibility of all states to combat this problem.
UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Climate Change Elisa Morgera said that just as climate change is a pressing global problem, tackling it must also be equally urgent:
"Although our planet as a whole is facing the problem of climate change, it is the least developed, developing or colonial states that suffer the most from it. The number one factor causing this problem is excessive carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Thus, since the 1990s, this volume has been many times higher than the permissible norm. Our calculations show that trillions of dollars are needed to protect the population of our planet from the consequences of climate change. The main goal of COP29 is to provide precisely this funding."
It was also pointed out that tackling climate change should be the responsibility of every state, not just countries that are paying attention to this problem at a global level.
