“The work of religious leaders is important for encouragement action on climate change and achieving climate justice,” said Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres during his speech at the Global Summit of Religious Leaders, themed “World Religions for a Green Planet,” commenced in Baku as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, APA reports.

He said that extreme temperatures, fires, droughts and large-scale floods do not spare any country:

"Actions aimed at developing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for countries to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees are important. Equity is essential to ensure that all countries have the resources to adapt to a changing planet and transition to a sustainable and renewable future. This includes significantly increasing financial support to developing countries and establishing a well-funded loss and damage response fund to help countries most affected by natural disasters," the Secretary-General stressed.
