“Now that we move further, we will not just adopt some declarations but we will do really some actions,” Peter Pellegrini, President of Slovakia said in a response to APA’s inquiry.

He said that he feels very positive atmosphere here in Baku and the crucial is that everybody’s on board: “Because each country in this case is too small. Doesn’t matter its size. If it’s only one country or few countries, this is not enough. That’s why crucial is that we will show some unity, we will work on what we are really delivering. I have to say that Slovakia is delivering. We cut off our emissions up to 50% from 1990. Our plan and goal is to cut 55% till 2030. We will invest over 12 billion euros for renewable energy.”

The Slovak President added that his country is also famous by using nuclear energy: “We are second to the largest producer of nuclear power.”

He added about his expectations on COP29: “In general, I’m waiting that we will decide on what most important economies will deliver. But at the same time, we will agree on that we have to finance and we will increase the financing for developing countries which need this financing from us. So I think, it should be this combination. Industrial countries have to deliver and we all together have to be solider with other small countries which need our help. I hope this will be the result of COP29 and of course, Slovakia will join the action of “No New Coal” and we will be part of this initiative.”
