"Our country has started a large-scale process. We have started the restoration of the territories which were occupied for nearly 30 years. It's not just the destroyed areas," Emin Huseynov, assistant to the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli and Khojavand districts, said this during his speech at the "Cities/Urbanized Environments" panel on the opening day of the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW), APA reports.
He said that they are trying to create a sustainable future in the liberated territories: "One of the main criteria here is the green transition and risk assessment. Our cities, whether newly restored or undergoing transformation, must be inclusive and have a lot of sustainable power. Aghdam has become the Hiroshima of the Caucasus. Fuzuli and Khojavand are also in this situation. The process of rehabilitating these cities is a task that requires careful planning. We build smart cities. In other words, we are building climate-resistant cities. Azerbaijan has developed in this direction as well. The possibility of using renewable energy is also taken into account during our design. New residential buildings and buildings in general are based on green cities. This corresponds to Azerbaijan's commitment to reducing carbon emissions."
